This is an outstanding result and huge congratulations to everyone involved in "Wicked". The citation from the CONDA judges said 'The audiences of Wicked were transported from their seats into the Land of Oz and the Emerald City with this visual and aural feast of colour, life, laughs and the occasional tear.  It  pulled together performance and massive production elements to a foremost degree to deliver a highly engaging and magical show to a professional standard. A superb audience experience.'

This is now the fifth year in a row that the company has won the CONDA Award for best musical.  This is a massive testament to the hard work and dedication of our amazing production team who each year strive for the highest quality possible.

The other exciting part of the night was that our Director, Julie Black, received the final award for Outstanding Achievement in Newcastle Theatre 2016.  This is a very deserved award and a great recognition of Julie's incredible contribution to Newcastle theatre.

Our season of "Wicked" ended on Saturday, 3 September to a sell-out crowd.  This is now the most successful production in Metropolitan Players' history and over 10,000 people came to see the show.  The comments and praise have been overwhelming for every aspect of the production.  Everybody in the cast, crew, orchestra and production team should be so very proud of what they achieved.

"Wicked" opened on 24 August and the audience loved it.  We have had rave reviews from audiences at every performance since then.  The Herald theatre critic, Ken Longworth, said 'This staging of the musical subtitled "The Untold story of the Witches of Oz" will have audience members in wide-eyed awe. Director Julie Black and the large staging team have made it magic". Comments range from a 'masterpiece' to 'a really professional production'; 'words are not enough'; 'a world class event'; 'absolutely stunning'.  This is a huge endorsement of all the hard work that everybody involved with the production has done and they so deserve all the accolades.

Last Tuesday (9 August) we held our media launch at the Civic Theatre which was a huge success.  The audience was treated to a few items form the show and got a sneak peek at some of the amazing costumes and hairstyles.

The publicity campaign for "Wicked" is now well underway.  TV ads are now appearing on NBN; the "Wicked"bus is travelling around; the banner is up outside the Civic Theatre and the billboard is getting great attention not to mention all the social media posts.  The cast are doing a wonderful job, sets and costumes are looking great and excitement is building.

Here are some of our leads in front of the billboard.  From left to right: Nessarose (Alana Wilson); Fiyero (Luke Baker); Glinda (Tayla Choice); Elphaba (Rachel Davies); Boq (Dominic Lacey).
